MODERN WHIRLING AROUND THE PHOENIX TREE
NAME: FACADE REMODELING, FOTILE STYLE SHANGHAI
LOCATION: SHANGHAI;
YEAR OF COMPLETION: 2012;
MATERIALS: PERFORATED METAL PLATES AND GREY GLASS.

Located at a cozy, quiet corner in the middle of the most happening downtown area in Shanghai, the Fotile exhibition house is blessed with the checkered shades of Wutong trees lining a street radiant with a classy Shanghai character.

Turning the longish transverse of the facade into an advantage, the design features grey perforated steel plates sprawling over the upper half of the building like thin, light gauze; and the Wutong leaf pattern that the perforations are arrayed into harmonizes well with the environs. The indoor space on the ground floor has only a reserved exposure to the street through grey glass curtain walls. At night, the blue neon light flooding the exterior gives an urban, modernistic touch.
